Camping in Pennsylvania
Whatever your outdoor pursuits, you will find the
perfect setting in the great and diverse vacationland of
Pennsylvania.
Plenty of culture abounds here and much of early
American history can be seen and felt. Independence Hall,
Gettysburg, and the Golden Triangle in Pittsburgh are just a three
of countless locations.
Visit the beautiful Amish farmlands of Southeast
and South Central Pennsylvania, the great Pocono vacation area, the
breathtaking views in the Grand Canyon, the beaches on Lake Erie,
and the scenic Laurel Highlands area of Southwestern Pennsylvania,
with its rushing rivers and the state’s highest point.
Northwestern Pennsylvania is a tranquil region of forests and
farmland, lakes and streams. The region includes Pennsylvania’s
lakefront on Lake Erie, as well as Allegheny National Forest. And,
of course, the region’s Jefferson County is the home of everybody’s
favorite groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil. You’ll find state parks,
antique shops, fresh water lakes, golf courses, cultural festivals,
museums, and much more throughout Northwestern Pennsylvania.
Southwestern
Pennsylvania includes the City of Pittsburgh and all of its history,
culture and attractions; however, it also encompasses Allegheny,
Beaver, Bedford, Cambria, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Somerset,
Washington and Westmoreland Counties … and all that they have to
offer. With the region including the birthplace of Jimmy Stewart,
there is nothing more typical of American life than Southwestern
Pennsylvania.
The North Central region incorporates Bradford, Centre, Clinton,
Columbia, Lycoming, Montour, Northumberland, Potter, Snyder,
Sullivan, Tioga, and Union Counties. North Central Pennsylvania is
heavily forested and home to several of the state’s favorite parks
and forests, including Pine Creek Gorge - Pennsylvania’s Grand
Canyon. The region has a rich history of logging and coal mining,
but is probably best known for the cities of Williamsport and State
College - home of Penn State.
South Central Pennsylvania is steeped in history, from the Civil War
to the history of manufacturing. It incorporates Adams, Blair,
Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Fulton, Huntingdon, Juniata, Lebanon,
Mifflin, Perry, and York Counties. The region includes the state’s
capital, Harrisburg, and all of its metropolitan attractions.
Additional must see destinations within the South Central region
include the Gettysburg Battlefields and everybody’s favorite
chocolate town, Hershey.
Northeastern Pennsylvania is bordered by the Delaware River to the
East, in the Tri-State Region of Pennsylvania, New York and New
Jersey. The primary metropolitan area within the region is formed by
the Scranton and Wilkes-Barre corridor. The region includes the
well-established resort areas of the Pocono Mountains, although
there is much more to Northeastern Pennsylvania than the Poconos …
and there is more to the Poconos than its trademark heart-shaped
tubs and wedding chapels.
You’ll find forests, waterfalls, antique shops, fresh water lakes,
golf courses, winter skiing, and much more throughout Northeastern
Pennsylvania. Southeastern Pennsylvania encompasses everything from
the Amish country of Lancaster County to the metropolitan appeal of
the City of Philadelphia.
The history and culture of Southeastern Pennsylvania are
unsurpassed. You’ll find national monuments, quaint storybook towns,
antique shops galore, more wineries than any other region of the
state, golf courses, cultural festivals, some of the best outlet
